Tasting Notes
2008 Root:1 Cabernet Sauvignon - Original Review by Robert K Jones

Background:
Winery & Vineyard - Character comes from your roots. While most vineyards around the world are planted on grafted rootstock, Root: 1 wines are grown on original, ungrafted roots, producing quality wine with pure fruit flavors and aromas. Root:1 wines are grown in Chile's most prestigious growing regions, with each verietal being produced in its ideal microclimate. The warm vineyards of the Colchagua produce outstanding red wines while the cool vineyards of Casablanca are world-known for their white wines.

Located between the massive Andes Mountains and the low coastal mountains of the Pacific Ocean, the warm and dry vineyards of the Colchagua Valley are world-renowned for producing outstanding red wines with rich color, full body and varietal character. In this unique valley, the steep and rocky soil maintains moisture for the vines during the intense summer heat while the coastal mountains temper the cool maritime influences of the Pacific. The hot and dry climate of the Colchagua Valley is world renowned for producing concentrated Cabernets of exceptional quality. Root: 1 is known for its elegant, lush, ripe fruit flavors.

Winemaker's Notes - A rich red wine with black currant, mocha and chocolate notes. Felipe Tosso, Winemaker

Tasting Notes: Ruby-red. Spicy red berry and cherry aromas are complemented by mint, licorice and black cardamom. A fresh, focused midweight, offering sweet raspberry and cherry flavors and good tangy snap. Very lively but could use a bit more heft; the finish is focused, brisk and nicely persistent.
